Sister Act will be presented by the Charleston Light Opera Guild on May 5, 6,, 12, 13, 14, 19 and 20, 2017 at the Charleston Civic Center Little Theatre. The musical follows disco diva Deloris Van Cartier who witnesses a murder and is put in protective custody in a convent. Disguised as a nun, she finds herself at odds with both the rigid lifestyle and uptight Mother Superior. Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but in doing so, blows her cover. Soon the gang is giving chase only to find themselves up against the power of her newly found sisterhood.
Sister Act is based on the hit 1992 comedy film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. Music is by Alan Menken, lyrics by Glenn Slater and book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The musical played Broadway in 2011, received multiple Tony Award nominations, has launched national and international tours and been performed in countries around the world.
