The Charleston Light Opera Guild will present 9 to 5: the Musical at the Charleston Civic Center Little Theatre on May 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. with a matinee performance on Sunday May 11 at 3:00 p.m.
Tickets will be sold to the public beginning April 28, 2014 at the Civic Center Little Theatre Box Office. Box Office hours are Monday through Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and one hour prior to performance. All seats are reserved and $20 each. This production is sponsored by the Charles & Mary-Fayne Glotfelty Foundation.
9 to 5: the Musical is based on the 20th Century Fox film of the same name with a book by Patricia Resnick based on the screenplay by Resnick and Colin Higgins and music & lyrics by Dolly Parton. The musical arrived on Broadway in 2009 and received 15 Drama Desk nominations, the most received by a production in a single year, as well as 4 Tony Award nominations. A US national tour and UK production were mounted in 2011 and 2012 respectively.
Three female co-workers are pushed to major frustrations by their egotistical, lying, womanizing boss. The year is 1979 and it’s a man’s world. They scheme to take over the company. Their plan quickly and hilariously spins out of control. Musical numbers include 9 to 5, Backwoods Barbie, Heart to Hart, Cowgirl’s Revenge, Change It, Get Out and Stay Out and Let Love Grow.
