Overview
|

Pump
Boys and Dinettes' is a high-energy country/rock interactive show that feeds off
the energy and pleasure of its audiences. The four guys do the occasional auto
repairs while the Cupp sisters celebrate their home cooking. All six of these
cheerful folks pay tribute to life and love, music and mischief in a small
Southern town along fictitious Highway 57 somewhere between Frog Level and
Smyrna, North Carolina. The action takes place at Jim and L. M.'s gas
station and the Double Cupp Diner.
The musical was conceived and written by John Foley, Mark Hardwick, Debra
Monk, Cass Morgan, John Schimmel and Jim Wann who also directed and starred in
the 1982 Broadway Production. The original cast members also were their own
backup band playing piano, guitar, bass, accordion and percussion. Though the
plot is slight, the fun is endless. The engaging music, inventive lyrics,
amusing characters and dialogue make this enjoyable for all.
Musical numbers include Highway 57, Serve Yourself, Fisherman’s
Prayer, Catfish, Mamaw, Drinkin’ Shoes, T.N. D. P. W. A. M. Pips, Farmer Tan
and Vacation.
The show was last produced by the Guild in 1990.
